I supported Duterte during his campaign.

We rolled the dice on someone who promised to smash the political machinery that was failing us, instead of promising to fix it, which is what we’d heard over and over again.

Here was something new and desperate. A desperate choice for a desperate nation.

We rolled the dice, and we lost.

And now we’re all going down.

  1. Been reading your blog for some time now, and I’ll be honest with you.

There’s a part of me that wishes to condemn you for letting yourself be hoodwinked. One that wants to tell you “I told you so!”. However, the larger part feels pity – sympathy, even – since you and a lot of other people were duped right under your noses. You had reasons why you voted for him back then and I fully respect that. Many of you believed, many of you saw him as the last remaining hope.

I, too, saw him as such. But his most rabid supporters turned me off. I’ve unfriended a few relatives on Facebook, with much more real-life unfriending to follow. Blood is thicker than water, so they say – but political views turn things into a sea of red.

Just to clarify: I do not wish to start a fight here. On the contrary, this post of yours made me understand that most of you do not deserve any antipathy whatsoever. If this comment triggers you, I give my apologies. Thank you.
